HENRY C. CONRAD ALUMNI ASSOCIATION
MEETING MINUTES ARCHIVE

Minutes from August 18, 2008 – Conrad Library

Attendees: Buck Simpers, Geri Renai Brainard, John “Ozzie” Cheban,
Joan Enslen, Lynn Farley Makowski, Harry Rogerson,
Faith Carter Simpers, Eleanor Badders Steele, Mary Ellen Vitsorek
Conrad’s current principal, Mark Pruitt, Jr., joined the Alumni Committee for the meeting.

License Tags – Mary Ellen (Dailey) Vitsorek
Flyer was prepared and distributed to Alumni Association committee to be widely distributed for promoting/selling CHS license tags

Harry demonstrated the license plate and form on the proposed Alumni Association link he has formulated to be put on his website www.conradhighschool.com

Mary Ellen asked that the write-up be revised to reflect the $10 is a one-time fee

To date, 11 license plates have been purchased
Joan will put notice on www.classmates.com

Brick Pavers – Faith (Carter) Simpers
Buck presented a copy of the site plan for the school and discussion evolved around possible locations for the bricks
Principal Pruitt will get a name of contractors he worked with at A.I. for a similar project for Buck to contact regarding quotes for laying bricks
Once that’s received, a fixed price could be established for selling them

We need to have this confirmed at next meeting so that we can start promoting at the October 25 football game and elsewhere (Alumni Association website)

Would be good if we could find an alumni who is a mason and might give us a break so we could sell the bricks at a nominal price to generate interest

Football Players – Brenda (Parrish) Saulsbury – not present
Geri will try to make initial contact with Bobby Smith to have him call Buck for details
If Buck doesn’t hear from Bobby by Wednesday (8/20), Mary Ellen will follow up
Goal is to pair current players with alumni players

Cheerleaders – Geri (Renai) Brainard
Geri was asking for more definitive information about what her role (and former cheerleaders’ roles) would be

Principal Pruitt offered Conrad has a cheerleader coach and he will contact her for Geri to follow up

Dance/Auction – Ozzie Cheban
November 22, 2008 Beef and Beer Event (Hockessin Fire Hall)
Ozzie will contact Alison Taub to get specifics on the PTO’s announcement/publicity to be distributed so that we can aggressively promote
Items needed for auction – can alumni donate one license plate? (Was not addressed at this meeting)

Homecoming Football Game – Alison Taub not present
October 25, 2008 – Conrad versus McKean at 11 a.m.
Principal Pruitt reported PTO is sponsoring a breakfast at 9 a.m. after which the school will be open for tours
Other sports taking place will be girl’s volleyball at 10 a.m. and soccer at 12 noon
Joan will contact president of the Alumni Band to see if they’re available – possibly have the current band and alumni band together play the National Anthem and one of former school’s songs (Cherokee and/or Love and Honor)
Alumni Association will be present and publicize license plates and bricks

Discussion around sale of mums– (since they were originally sold by Oreads at Thanksgiving game, what would be the reason for selling them at this game?) Alumni Association Committee members will definitely wear them and have minimal available for sale

Alumni Association Website – Harry Rogerson
Harry demonstrated a sample Alumni Association website he prepared for our review and comments
He suggested a list of officers be included – attendees discussed listing committee members’ names rather than a formal list of officers
Attendees agreed to have an application on line and charge a nominal processing fee of $5 to acquire email addresses of alumni interested in becoming members/volunteers; monies received will be sent to Brenda
Using the four Mission Statement submissions, Harry will compose a 2-3 sentence statement to be put on the Alumni Association website for our review at the next meeting

Other Topics Discussed:

Publicity – Ozzie Cheban
Discussion evolved around how best to “get the word out” about the Alumni Association and its initiatives; i.e.,
Word of mouth
Individual email distribution lists
Direct mailings

Geri brought the alumni address list she used for the all-class reunion she organized so that it could be incorporated with whatever other distribution list(s) would be used

Principal Pruitt offered Alumni Association publicity could possibly be included in the all-choice school’s marketing; i.e., something in the press, something in print, something on radio

Principal Pruitt will consult with Patti Nash and put her in contact with Ozzie so they can meet/collaborate

Alumni Museum/Time Line/Memorabilia
Principal Pruitt reported painting of gymnasium lobby has started
He requested alumni athletic pictures to permanently be hung in that area
Other areas to be dressed in a similar fashion are
Auditorium – will need performing arts photos (i.e., Sock & Buckskin Club, Choir)
Hallways – will need photos depicting student life

NEXT MEETING: SEPTEMBER 15, 2008 – 6:00 PM – CONRAD HIGH SCHOOL LIBRARY

Faith Carter Simpers – Class of ‘65
